In Memory...

To all our incredible subscribers...
It is rare that you meet someone who has the power to touch lives and truly make a difference and that's exactly what Dorit Shapiro, the President of the Gal to Gal Foundation did at a fundraising event held in her honor on October 2, 2008. As she stood in front of friends, family and supporters, Dorit, who was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer two years ago, eloquently shared her personal story as well as her mission to help those like her battling this deadly disease. Four days later, this 38-year-old wife and mother of two was admitted to the hospital. On October 12, Dorit Shapiro passed away.
It is the hope of the Gal to Gal Foundation to keep Dorit's memory and mission alive by sharing the video from this special evening that meant so much. Dorit Shapiro was a remarkable woman who even in her final days, was determined to share her message of hope while lending a voice to over 300,000 men and women who are diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer every year. If you would like to honor Dorit's memory, register today for the Gal to Gal Virtual Walk (www.galtogalwalk.org) and help the organization raise $250,000 so that the Foundation can grant hundreds of wishes for Stage IV breast cancer patients and their families this holiday season.
Dorit's wish was not for herself. It was that we make this goal and that no woman living with Stage IV should feel alone in this journey. Please join Dorit's virtual self and all of us today in her honor.

That is so sad; but what a courageous fight, and amazing legacy.

Dorit Shapiro was my sister. She passed away on 10/12/08 after a 3-year battle with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, leaving behind her husband and two young daughters, ages 8 and 4. She was recently named President of the Gal to Gal Foundation - see www.galtogalwalk.org. There’s a YouTube video of a speech she gave on 10/2/08 in New York at www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_QET7Ivwv8, and a Huffington Post article written by Beth Feldman on 10/14/08 www.huffingtonpost.com/beth-feldman/in-memory-of-dorit-shapir_b_134519.html.

I was privileged to attend the evening in her honor in New York. It was a difficult and yet uplifting evening for our family. I am exceedingly proud of Dorit, my younger sister, for her part in helping build awareness of Gal To Gal, and for her inspiring words that night. She was most definitely on a mission, and she carried herself very well, despite her physical ailments taking their toll.

We will all miss her.
